During this time of the year El Refugio (his hometown) becomes festive in honor of Nuestra Señora Del Refugio. For one week the
local fair, rodeos, parades, dances, shows and tons of yummy food fills the hearts of many and I was one of them. Oh boy did I eat some yummy food, played games with Ismael, and we even took a mini trip to one of the many places of the Huasteca Potosina.
As a state, San Luis Potosi is rich in natural turquoise clear waters, waterfalls, amazing greenery landscapes, butterflies everywhere and so much more. Let's talk a little more about what exciting things we did.
( This legit looked like a picture taken in Bali. Mi HERMOSO MEXICO)
( Outdoor Shower was a dream of mine)
We stayed at Hotel El Salto del Meco at the Huasteca Secreta. It was a short 3 hour drive from where my suegros live. We stayed in Luna Loca Bungalow and booked the bottom part for the suegros and his brother. With each booking of any room comes 2 daily activities that you can choose from; paddle boarding, tubbing, boat ride and others. If that is not your thing you can chill by the river and swim to the waterfall like we did or just sit back, relax and enjoy nature. Breakfast is also included with every stay; the papaya was so sweet! Breakfast is served in a restaurant at the top of the waterfall with a spectacular view of the turquoise water; just be warn, there are many stairs to get here.
We went zip-lining, but not just any kind of zip-lining, we did a BICYCLE ZIPLINE!!! Listen, their is only TWO bicycle ziplines in THE WORLD, one is in the Philippines and the other one is three hours away from El Refugio, in San Luis Potos (or at least that is what my research told me) CRAZY!! if you ever have the opportunity to experience this crazy human invention please do it!
Was it scary? umm hell yes! I was shaking, but moments like this are what makes us feel ALIVE! get out of that comfort zone. The experience is well worth it. Grateful to make such amazing memories with my life partner.
The rest of the trip we just enjoyed ourselves, his family and ate a lot. Quite frankly when I was younger I had zero interest in getting to know Mexico. Now that I am older, I appreciate my homeland and the inmnense diversity within the food, culture, customs and regions. Mexico is a rich country that I will continue to promote traveling to. We have always felt safe; taking the same safety precautions we would if we traveled anywhere else. At work several people said to me "I heard Mexico is not safe" and my response is always the same: " Unless you experience it yourself you will never know. The way the media portrays Mexico is no longer the present". Sure there is danger, violence and bad people but so are they EVERYWHERE else. Don't let that stop you from visiting placed worth seeing in this life.

( Tepache anyone?)
