I have been slapping this home made drink all over my Instagram so if your tired of me talking about it sorry not sorry. 80 degree weather call for a nice cold drink. Few of my favorites are iced coffee with splash of oat milk and cinnamon, good old iced latte, a tonic or this beautiful ice chai latte. People kept asking me what is a chai, listen Linda I didn't create this drink, although that would be pretty cool to lie about, so google it darling. I have no idea where this drink came from but its very well known and popular here in the states. I would describe it as a capirotada drink 🤣
Now before you come at me for being extra AF with all these ingredients; LOL! Yes, I know it has lot s of spices etc but a little handful of them will make you a large batch. As oppose to buying one for minimum of what $3.50/$4 x3 week etc.. do the math. you get it. (I am trying to be positive here).
So get your pan out and let's make some chai shall we.
What You'll Need:
+ 5 cups of water
+ 5 Whole green cardamoms
+ 1Tsp Black pepper corns
+ 13 cloves
+ 3 star anise
+ 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
+ 1 Tsp ground ginger
+ 3 black tea bag
+ 1 whole cinnamon stick =
+ 1 Tsp Vanilla extract (liquid or powder)
+ 4 cups of your preferred milk
+ * Maple syrup/sugar any sweetener of your choice
How I Make My Chai:
In a pot over medium heat add the 5 cups of water and place all the ingredients minus the sweeter and milk. Once it boils I reduce the heat to low and let steep for 15-30 minutes. Then add 4 cups of your milk of choice( my favorite almond coconut milk) plus sweetener; I like a mix between liquid stevia and maple syrup. Turn it back to medium heat until it boils then reduce to low heat. Let steep for 15-30 minutes.
Turn off the stove but leave it there to cool to room temperature. Strain the drink then transfer to a glass container and keep in fridge for up to 5 days; if you even make it past one day, it's seriously that good. Serve over a cup full of ice, sit back and enjoy.
WITH LOVE,
MAGGIE ♥
